St. Andrews, Scotland

What a great day we've had! Started out at our favorite little breakfast spot where I had the best peppermint tea ever! They are serious about their teas and coffees...no tea bags here!
Motored on to St. Andrews some drop dead gorgeous farmland/ country-side....it has been SO much fun taking out of the way roads. We got to the old course at St. Andrews and Roy was in heaven!! It was everything he wanted it to be. After spending as much time as he wanted browsing and taking pictures we went on a walking tour of the sights in town. This is a charming, OLD university town. We saw the beach where Chariots of Fire was filmed ( the infamous running down the beach scene).
We stopped for a moment at the Martyrs' monument that consists of an obelisk that commemorates those who died for their Protestant beliefs during the Scottish Reformation. Strolled on down to St. Salvatore's College and St. Andrews Castle..Wow!! It is mind-boggling as to just how old everything around you is. We walked up to St. Andrews Cathedral (what's left of it) and walked around an old cemetery that dates back into the 1500s! From there we walked through some of the town and back to the golf course where we had dinner at the Jigger Inn...dates back to the mid 1850s!! Great meal and drove back to our digs along yet another lovely road less traveled! Roy is a pro at driving these "roundabouts" that are everywhere!! If you take a wrong exit, you just keep driving in a circle till you get it right!!
Till tomorrow...we'll head to the William Wallace monument and then to spend the night in the sea-side village of Oban.
