Edinburgh, Scotland

We made it to Edinburgh about 8:00am local time which made it 2:00 am our personal time!! Had a great flight all the way. Picked up our bags and promptly left them with the rent car at the airport(safe and didn't have to fight downtown traffic for our first go at right side driving! Took a cab to The Royal Mile which dropped us off at Edinburgh castle where we saw the changing of the guard and heard the music they play. Rainy, dreary day but what fun to see/feel a nice steady rainfall day!  Walked all down the Royal Mile and saw many shops with lots of plaid and kilts! Roy isn't wearing one yet! My favorite part of the walk was St. Giles Cathedral. Not only was it exquisite in the details of everything from the stained glass to the wood carvings everywhere along with a special treat of hearing the choir practice for the noon service..beautiful voices in the hushed silence of this sacred place. Pictures just can't do it justice. Another treat...the Queen is in residence this week at The Palace of Holyrood house, her residence away from London. Didn't get an audience with her but did see the gates, fountains and many of the ladies that had been to high tea ( such a treat to see them in their frocks and hats!) we also visited with 2 men that I stopped to ask why they were dressed like they were...we'd seen at least 10-15 already...they are part of a group of 70 men that hold the honor of High Constable of Holyrood house when the Queen is in residence.
Hailed a cab back to the airport and my honey managed to get us to the place where we are staying 2 hours away while driving on the right side of the car and road...that is beyond weird!! He did a fabulous job. We are safely in our guest cottage thanks to John/Lisa with our tummies full and our eyelids VERY heavy. We've been up since 5:30 Monday morning and it is now 2:26 pm Texas time(8:26 pm Scotland time) on Tuesday!! It is weird to lose 6 hours!  Roy is already in dreamland and I will be soon. Including a couple of pics..Kary, one for you...hugs to all...Mary T

  6. Get that man a kilt, he'll love it! If Roy has Scottish blood, the Scottish Tartans Authority say he is if the Lamont or MacDonald Clan.
