Leaving Oban

Woke to the sea breeze coming in our open window and the many sea vessels preparing for the day. Went down to a lovely breakfast in the dining room where we were seated next to and of course visited with Steven and his wife Nan (about 70 yrs young) about our trip and life in the United States. They were delightful and very well read...she asked about the Llano Estacado and Larry McMurtry!! Has read all of his books.
Visited with Graeme ( picture of him with Roy/Mary) the owner of the guesthouse and his girlfriend Susanna for a long time about what they do for fun ( he sails in a race every Tuesday!) she works for the Four Seasons and travels all over the world when not in Oban...sorry to leave them but had to get on with our day.  Walked a bit around the Town Center stopping in a few shops...stopped in the post office to see about shipping the Whisky and a woman named Lynn helped us and come to find out she is from Tempe Arizona!! Long story but she is 72 living in and loving Oban and was delighted to visit with fellow Southwestern Americans...she hugged and kissed us both as we left!
Had to stop in the Oban Chocolate Shop...oh, my!! Had a fresh Scone with Lemon Curd and Cream...my mouth is watering typing this!! Yum-Yum. Roy had a raisin scone and white chocolate hot chocolate!! We left very happy and motored on down the BEAUTIFUL roadways through several Lochs and parts of the Trossach Forrest..unbelievable beauty. Loch Lomand makes the largest lake in Texas look like a duck pond!!
We stopped in Inverary where we went through the Inverary Castle...it is considered a Fortified Castle as the 13th Duke of Argyll and family live in it!! They occupy the upper floors and love to mingle with the likes of us when they are at home! We did not see them today. It is also the castle that is seen on many Downton Abbey episodes. I am including a picture of the dining room where several scenes have been filmed. It was a great side trip. These Scots are serious about their castles!!
Made it to Glasgow about 6:00 , checked in, unloaded and took the car back so we can get to the airport easily for our flight in the morning. Will meet up with Mike/Peggy in. Dublin.
Till the next entry....Roy and I are thinking of everyone and love, love the comments you are leaving.

  1. What an amazing trip! I want a castle, but I do not want to have to keep it clean! So, there goes that dream! Love the blog, the thought of you guys perusing the countryside, the streets, meeting people and hearing their stories, inviting them to come to your home and beginning to sign them all up. The next few months will get REALLY busy! Can't wait to hear the longer version of all of this! Hi to Mike and Peggy and keep those blog postings coming! Love, D&K
